Patriotism
So yesterday, my kids were overwhelmed by patriotism and excitement and when it was bedtime, my son decided that the day wouldn't be complete without an official portrait of President Obama. From memory. He ran into his room after telling us "it's a good thing that I have brown markers" and then there was a lot of "WHAT COLOR IS HIS HAIR? WHAT COLOR ARE HIS EYEBROWS?" Thank goodness that he didn't ask about his eyelashes because I can't live with the humiliation of not knowing about the Presidential eyelashes.
And to show that change is really upon us? My son, who has never drawn a nose before, drew President Obama's. And he's not even Jewish.

And a very good likeness it is too..
Such an artist!
Not only the first African-American president, but the first nose! A new era, indeed.
It's a big day when the new president ushers in the era of noses.
Awesome job it was a big day new president and noses! Great art work!
Not too shabby. Does he do commission work?
Looks just like him. The president I mean.
Aw, that's just too sweet!
I like the sound of President Obamastein.
That is too cute, even if his Obama looks more like Will Smith.
...Will Smith in Men in Black.
Wow, very cool!
My daughter knows who Obama is, but she has confused him with Kanye West...
He did a really good job and it does look a lot like him, down to the red tie.
Your son is on the way to becoming quite the artiste. Better than I could draw.
Obama should totally hire your son to do his campaign posters next time. The guy who did this campaign's poster was a former criminal and shit, so he couldn't even officially sell it to the campaign.
Obama couldn't be seen dirtying his hands with a criminal, so he just took that shit for free instead. Isn't it great how America works!
Keep your son off the streets and you could be rich with the next election.
BTW, I learned that shit by NOT watching Rock Love whatever, but by watching Steve Colbert instead. My IQ is SO fucking high right now.
The likeness is uncanny. My boy exclaimed: "He has the same jacket as me!!!"
What an amazing day of firsts. :)
Heather's comment was almost better than your post.
Your son sure has come a long way. Take that art teachers!
you have kids?
that is very impressive. I like his patriotic spirit.
something you should know, marinka, and i don't like being the one to tell you. but it is highly unlikely your son will be gay. sorry. if he had asked about eyelashes, maybe. but it is looking like he will turn out to be a deal maker (see your blog on his bargaining skills v. husbandrinka) with an artistic flair. the women will love him; the het-men, admire him; the lesbos, play hoops w/him; the bi-curious will be bi-curious about him, but the gays will secretly hate him. he encroaches on too much of our territory w/o being one of us. sorry. but nature is a cruel master.
Nice portrait!!!
I think if Mr. Obama goes so far as to show up on money some day, your son's pic should be the image. I love it!
That is so great in so many ways! :-)
A lovely likeness. Maybe your son could be the official White House sketcher.
What a little artistinka you have!
Oh that is funny it reads arti-stinka that is not what I meant to say - just meant to say he is an artist and was trying to be funny with the inka's. This is going nowhere is it?
Awesome drawing. At first I thought it was the real thing!
Lookee! Barak Obinka!
Great drawing! Maybe I could commission him to draw a portrait of me for my blog photo?
he has the ears right ;)
I LOVE it!! It's Dr. King. I mean President Obama.......
Ann's Rants - I don't know, that's good, I can't stop laughing.
Beautiful artwork as well, of course.
He drew a nose?
That honor may possibly surpass the honor of becoming President.
Just beautiful. I bet you could solicit that to be hung in the White House.
Kids art is the BEST! who can blame him for catching and wanting to act on that excitement.
I've left you a little something on my Blog, hope you like it
ummmmmm....can he do a Sara
Palin for me ?? ;-)
That's a pretty impressive nose for a first timer!
I'd love to see his rendition of Superdaddy! I hope he has a pale yellowish marker.
As I watched the ceremony Tuesday, I was thinking how great it is to have a president whose ears stick out (like mine). I hadn't even thought about the nose angle....
What an awesome pic...put it on his website, I bet your son would get a letter from him :)
I was just thinking Obama had gained some weight around the face.
And a damn good job of rendering the First Nose!
