We're Off to See the Wizard!

I was recently contacted by some theatrical people to do a giveaway on this blog for theater tickets to the Wizard of Oz which is opening at the Madison Square Garden next week. Immediately I thought that I'm so not that kind of a blog, but then I figured maybe some people would enter the giveaway because they thought that it was a giveaway to see OZ, that show with the hot prisoners. Because I suspect that my readers skim a lot out of a sense of self-preservation.

The giveaway is for four tickets to see the live stage performance of The Wizard of Oz at Madison Square Garden (in NYC, duh) on April 4th at 11 am. I'm sure that the show will be tons of fun and the best part? You don't have to think of ways to entertain your kids on Saturday morning! And it's free! And you get to be all "I'm a winner!"

To enter this giveaway, leave me a comment and tell me the first play/movie/tv show that you remember watching as a child. If you have no memory whatsoever about which play/tv show/movie you saw as a child, I encourage you to lie. Because that's what passes for creativity around here.

I will announce the giveaway winner on Saturday, March 21st.

Good luck, and for those of you who don't win (technically, losers), or those who wish to see the show on a day other than April 4th at 11 am, or who know down deep in your soul that you will need to see the show repeatedly, click here for a 15% discount on tickets.

I remember seeing the Nutcracker with my mom. But even before that I remember sneaking downstairs at the crack of dawn on saturday mornings to climb on the counters and sneak M&Ms and watch the Smurfs. I would LOVE to win this contest.

Welll, the first movie I remember seeing in a theater is Charlotte's Web (the original, from the late 70's) - but the popcorn ran out just after the opening credits. So we left.

The opening credits were cool, though.

And just to offer some background info - my cousin lives in Brooklyn, and I would be giving these tickets to her and her two kids. I am not entering this contest from Hawaii just to be an ass - I really want to do this for my cousin, who is a single mom and working hard to support her kids. If I still lived in the NE, I would be all "memememememe" since my daughter's birthday is April 11th, but nooooooo I am selflessly entering this contest for someone else. And thus, my explaination for entering the contest is longer then my actual entry.

Which explains my mad blogging skills.

The first movie I ever remember seeing was Mary Poppins. My dad took my sister, my brothers and me to the drive-in and we wore our pajamas!
In 2001, my daughter, Gina's high school drama club did The Wizard of Oz and Gina was cast as Dorothy Gale(she won a best actress award in competition for her portrayal!) My son was a flying monkey (on roller blades!) and my youngest, Dani was a Munchkin! And I have pictures and video to prove it!

I will come all the way from Oklahoma if I win. And guess what, I am SURE they want Okie's at that play! They do! And I will really come! The first movie I remember watching as a child was E.T. Well, also Poltergeist, but not all of it. My brother would just play the part where the guys face was coming off. So mainly, E.T.

It was an English kids program called Rainbow. With puppets and a host called Geoffrey. One puppet had a zipper for a mouth. When Zippy talked too much Peter would zip up his mouth.
It scared me when he zipped up Zippy's mouth.
(Whimper).

Oh and no way I am coming to NYC to see that scary show. I saw the movie when I was 5. The scarecrow's straw was falling out of his body. I had nightmares for years.

Oh I would so go to this. First movie I remember was with my Mom, cousin and Aunt. I know it's a really early memory because the move was in black & white. It was a Christmas movie about Santa Claus and the devil. No lie. It was the mid 70's and it scared the hell out of me.

I'm not crazy. Someone else must remember this movie besides me.

So if I win the tickets, it will make up for my creepy first movie memory.

One of the reasons you're "so not that kind of blog" is that your readers are from around the country and around the world. That said, WofOz is my FAVORITE movie ever and Wicked is my favorite play.

And the first movie I recall going to see was "Gigi."

This sounds like a great giveaway (although I'm in DC so probably not a good choice to win).

I see so many lame giveaways, but tickets are definitely not in that category.

I would love to win this, as me and the kids love Broadway, or in this case Times Square. But wait, I actually hate Times Square. It's a little to zooey...

Ah, right contest. I can't enter though-as I will be in Jamaica.

Yes, the whole point here is to tell you I am going o Jamaica.

The first play I saw was Tap, on Broadway of course! The first Movie I was in a theatre was probably Gremlins and the first TV show I remember was a version of Sesame street in SPANISH! My mom kept putting it on the English one and I refused to watch it in English and kept changing the channel. I was 2 years old and figured out exactly what channel to change it to. To this day I don't speak Spanish well so I guess it didn't help me much!

believe it or not, the first movie i ever saw was 'the wizard of oz' on tv. in black and white. we were that poor. (we only had shoes on our feet because our grandfather was a cobbler [the kind who made shoes, not the deep-dish fruit pie w/a rich biscuit crust, usually only on top {but if we lived in oz, he maybe COULD have been!}]). but i still immediately loved this film. i was about three. goes to show you the queers start young. and i remember the first time i saw it in color at my aunt rose's house. i couldn't comprehend its beauty. it was all i could think about for years, waiting for that annual showing.

now, you could give those tickets to some priveledged,, pampered, hockey mom and her spoiled, overweight brats. or you could reignite the hope and cherished memories of an appreciative fan who-- oh wait. that's the same night at the white party in palm springs. never mind! good luck to the other contestants!

"My Fair Lady". We lived in Vienna where movies were hardly ever not dubbed into German and this one was still in English, which was Very Exciting. My father took me, which would have been a great treat except that (a) I was terrified of my father until about age 25 (b) I had stepped on a bee that day and my foot was so itchy and swollen that I had an anti-arch. I took my Mason Pearson genuine boar's bristle hairbrush with me and spent the movie alternating between "brushing" my foot to alleviate the itch and soothing it with saliva when it got too sore from the bristles. I barely remember the movie except that (c) my father kept going on about how he'd danced with Audrey Hepburn at a diplomatic function in Belgium when he was young.

I would love to be able to see it, but I live kind of too far. That is also two days after my birthday so that would be a wonderful gift unfortunately I can't try for the tickets. I don't remember the first movie/play/tvshow I saw, but My favorite play is Wicked.

Only enter me in this contest if you think I can tinker with the tickets to make them good for a show in mid-May, when I'll actually be in New York with my family. Otherwise, I would be a useless winner. But do you want to have dinner or drinks with me sometime in May when I'm in your town, if I promise not to make you take me to see the Wizard of Oz?

Please, please, please don't do anything fair like pick a random number...just pick ME!!!

Hmm..my first movie that I remember is The Fox and the Hound. My first play was my first grade mother's day play that I starred in. I was a TERRIFIC little squirrel. For tv, I have lots of memories of Sesame Street, Mr. Rogers, The Land of the Lost, and Romper Room.

I answered all three, can I get 3 entries?

The Wiz was my first broadway experience.

I took the Amtrack from Connecticut. Sitting beside me was, serendipidously, Steffanie Mill's cousin. He was going to the same production. He was not, however, as excited as I.

After the show I bought the soundtrack and, to this day, can sing my lungs out with amazing accuracy (with a style that can only be likened to fingernails across a blackboard) every single song from the musical. Yes I can. Try me.
