Pom Poms

Do you remember these from your youth?

(I wore these all through high school. And every once in a while, one of the pom poms would fall off in the laundry and I'd have a mini nervous breakdown, but still wear one pom pommed sock and one pom pomless one. I was a real wild child).

And what are you doing to try to forget it?

Am I first ...no way.
I'm trying to grow my mullet back to forget. I never wore them by the way, but I did find a few in the dryer! lol

Am not worrying about it. Everybody knows this type of socks:
1. Chafes at your feet like the devil.
2. Gets holey after 2 washes only.
3. does nasty things to your ankles, pompomy or pompomless.

Wine solves the pom pom longing. And? Those socks suck with flip flops. And? The cheerleaders who wore them were total skanks. Except you. You are a skank free zone.

At my high school, only the cool girls wore pom pom socks. Our school uniform socks were like white PE socks. Sad, but true. And don't even get me started on the bow tie.

What am I doing to forget? How can I forget, when people from 20 years ago keep accosting me on Facebook? ;-)

Aren't these making a comeback?
Maybe along with ribbon barrettes.

I'm totally going to list pom-pom socks as a reason for my eventual suicide.

Oh, Anna! Ribbon barrettes!! I was so good at making those!!! (yes, all the exclamation points are necessary)

As for what I am trying to forget? Leg warmers are pretty high on the list (I was never a dancer, so you can imagine what sort of outfits they graced.) Giant slouchy shirts with low-slung belts were not the best look. However, I think the multiple earrings in each ear, that did not match any other earring, including those in the other ear, are pretty much the pinnacle of embarrassing.

Remember? What do you mean?

I wear socks like that now. Some of them have little things like ladybugs and Tigger's head on there.

I refuse to ever grow up, and Stacy and Clinton would die of disgust if they saw my clothes. Really.

Never wore them, I'm pretty sure they were invented after I was already an adult, I'm sorry to say. Either that, or my mom, who was thrifty, never bought them.
I'm trying to forget Easter Hats.

We called them peds, btw. Also, for those of you of a certain age, you'll remember Frye boots with a special kind of sock that was specifically designed to pull UP and OVER the top of the cowboy boot. Like a boot...cuff. Looked super hot unless for some reason your mom wouldn't buy you real Frye boots, only a rubber knock-off.

*Rubber.*

I went to tennis camp for three years and lived in those. I wouldn't be caught dead wearing one pink puff and one yellow. Thanks for helping me relive the trauma

...there I was skipping down the sidewalk little pom poms bouncing at my heel when BAM! I get attacked by a wild poodle who had to kill the pom poms. Kill. Them.

It was very traumatic.

The look I want to foget: I wore a bandana tied around my slouchy boot.

My pom pom socks always matched my outfits. Ususally a polo shirt. :)

Now I just have white footies for my tennis shoes. So increadibly boring. I buy them they in batches so they can be matched even if I loose one.

OMG yes, although "elementary school and middle school," not high school. (In high school we wore SLOUCH socks, two pairs at a time.)

What I would like to know is who originally thought of putting a POM POM on a SOCK?

My mother bought me a matching robe and socks from Victoria's Secret, and the socks had those damn poms on them. And yes, they were gone after the first washing. This was LAST YEAR.

One time I forgot to pack socks for volleyball practice. My friend on the tennis team had an extra clean pair... ones with bright yellow pom poms (yellow is her favorite color.)
