Happy Erev Christmas!

We have been having many theological conversations at our house.

My daughter made a huge sign that says "CHRISTIANS ROCK!!!" and underneath a parenthetical (Jews too). I live in constant fear that my children will reject my atheist leanings and become religious freaks, so this poster was not reassuring.

When I asked her what's with the Christians rocking so hard, she told me that she'd thought it through and the story of the Resurrection sounds really probable. Whereas she has her doubts about the whole Hannukah miracle. (This reminded me of my parents' friend who whenever he saw a movie would comment with "almost exactly the same thing happened to me!" Especially convincing after watching "The Empire Strikes Back." My parents had friends that probably shouldn't have been around children.) But maybe my daughter is right. I mean, who's ever heard of oil lasting that long, especially in this day and age of climbing prices?!

This morning, when I reminded the kids that after we go to to the circus, they're off to Church with their father and his parents for Christmas Eve service, they decided to convert to Judaism for the night. They assured me that they would be back to the Christian fold by Christmas morning, in time to welcome Santa.

And some crazy people worry that their kids miss the whole Reason for the Season. Not my children. Have a happy whatever you celebrate! (Or as I like to call it, Wednesday.)

I definately feel your pain. We moved 500 miles away so I didn't have to celebrate x-mas and be asked questions about "my people."

Now my husband has enough guilt to be a convert on the spot. I ignore him, while I help myself to his last bite of General Pao's chicken. Then I tell him to hurry-up and get in the car, a big tub of movie popcorn has my name all over it!

Wow, guy coming back to life after being dead for 3 days...more plausible than oil lasting 8 nights. Hmm.

Religion is not often discussed in my house, but it sounds like fascinating conversation in yours.

My girlfriend says she wants to become a Jew so she can weary more jewelry and increase the number of holidays she celebrates. I can't say I disagree with her logic.

I was thinking of converting to Jehova's Witness for the month of December so I don't have to celebrate or participate in any of it.

I have the same fear of my children turning into religious freaks, too!!!

Happy Wednesday to you too!! Religion (or my lack of any) causes me far more grief than joy. Not looking forward to guiding my children in that department--- I'm clueless.

I LOVE being asked questions about "my people".

I often reply, "My grandparents were very religious Catholics. The fact that my grandfather was Second in Command of the IRA and blew up some folks, well, see God forgave him. That's the beauty of Catholicism. You get to get away with murder. It's grand.

(Grandparents rolling over in grave)

MERRY CHRISTMAS, HAPPY ...oh jeez, how to you spell HAUNICA? hee hee

And a Happy Whatever back. I hope the circus was nice. Other than the clowns of course. They're never nice...evil, nasty clownses.
