Conspiracy Theorist (or There is No "wine" In Swine Flu Vaccine)

Last night, I had a discussion with Husbandrinka. This is basically a transcript. Because I multi-task, and while we were talking, I was also taking notes.

Husb: Marinka, I want to get your opinion on the swine flu vaccine, because I value your wisdom.

Mar: I do not believe that we should get the swine flu vaccine.

Why, Marinka? I would like you to share your knowledge with me.

Well, for one, they rushed this vaccine through and we cannot be assured of its safety.

Who rushed the vaccine through?

The government. And maybe the vaccine company.

Now you're sounding like one of those conspiracy theory nutcases.

I'm not. But the government is trying to kill us. Especially me. While the vaccine company gets rich. It's a perfect trifecta, minus one.

That is nonsense. I think that the vaccine is perfectly safe.

Ok. But they developed it in like two months. They couldn't have possibly tested it.

They were working on it for longer than that.

Really?

Sure, researchers are always working.

Hmm..

They are interested in getting this right, you know.

Well..

I think it's perfectly safe.

So are you getting it?

No. But I think that you should.

I think that all flu vaccines are a bunch of shit. It's just a big pharmaceutical scam. There is no way in hell that I am injecting some virus into my body.

I'm totally with you. I am not getting the swine flu vaccine and don't think it's safe. I also told boyfriend he was not allowed to get it because I don't want to have to deal with the residual problems that will inevitably rise from this thing 5 years down the road. Like flipper babies and/or odd growths.

Just asked my pediatrician if she's vaccinating HER kids. There was this deafening silence, then she told me she hadn't yet decide. The whole freaking issue is clear as mud.

I just spent TWO weeks in bed with the swine flu, and let me tell you, you don't want to catch it. I'm still no where near recovered.

I will be getting the vaccine for my kids.

Marinka, RIGHT ON GIRL!
I am so with you, i do not understand why people are chomping at the bit to get the swine flu shot. THe swine flu is not any more deadly than the regular flu. THey have rushed it to market and have not had time to complete clinical trials, especially on children. And does no one remember what happened in the seventies? I am very pro-vaccine--we get regular flu shots every year, and I even gave my son the MMR NOT BROKEN UP (Gasp!), but the swine flu vaccine freaks me out. If the press was giving daily updates on the new with how many have died of REGULAR flu people would see H1N1 is no worse.

My sister in law is a nurse; yesterday she asked all the doctors she worked with (she works in a great hospital, in the operating room) if they were getting it and if they were getting their kids the vaccine...NOT one of them is getting it, nor are any of their kids. That speaks volumes to me!

I agree with you completely. I don't feel safe getting it and I sure as heck don't feel safe getting it for my kids.

I was nervous about the H1N1 vaccine too, but then I found out it is the same as the regular flu vax--they just swapped out the viral strain.

I won't get it because I'm not high risk, but my kids will be vaccinated.

FWIW, we all get flu shots every year with no negative effects.

I really don't know how I feel about this. It is just another strain. They always are changing the strains. So, that is one way to think about it.

Listen to this story though. My friends boss is really close with her family. Found out her son got swine flu (that is what the doctor said according to him) and was out for a few days. Family stayed away because they didn't want to catch it. They guy died. He was healthy, strong, early twenties, found dead on the bed. Now the doctor is saying he NEVER said it was swine, that he had a respiratory infection. The moms work said to not tell anyone it was swine because people are going to freak out. No one knows what to believe. Are more people dying of it than we know but being named something else so people don't have a mass freak out??? The whole story is incredibly fishy and now a mom lost a young, normally healthy son.

I think the vaccine might be worth the risk.

Yeah... I'm totally too scared of the H1N1 vaccine, too. I am NOT getting it! Neither are my children! I'm still undecided on the regular flu shot, for crying out loud! I'm scared of everything, actually!

Also, new reports say that people who even get the regular flu shot are a higher risk of getting H1N1. That's really scary, no? I have herad this a few times already...

I'm trying to decide gambling on the flu shot or gambling on surviving the actual flu if I get pregnant. And I'm a TERRIBLE gambler. I just can't make up my mind.

34% of pregnant women with swine flu get admitted to the hospital with respiratory problems. Those are really, really bad odds if you are pregnant and considering not getting the vaccine.

The non-pregnant have much less risk, even those who have asthma.

Me or my kids never get flu shots. But I think we're getting the
H1N1. I just worry about the virus mutation possibilities, in which case we're all F___ed.
But I'm just one of those "mutation worriers," so don't pay any attention to me.

Maybe you can do a test run on the kids this year, and if they seem side effect free next fall, their dad can give it a try, and if THAT goes ok, by the following fall you've got two good years of testing and three test subjects as a buffer and you're probably good to go.

This plan is of course useless if you plan to contract the swine flue in the next couple of years.

Otherwise, solid plan.

Agreed. No swine flu vaccine for us, either. But then, I never get flu shots. I don't really believe in injecting myself with everything that is available, otherwise I'm thinking there are much nicer things to use, with better side effects ;-)

I had a cab driver tell me that the vaccine was going to wipe out all the poor people. (Apparently it checks your bank account.)

He didn't say anything about the middle class...but I assume they're doomed too.
