You Think You Know Someone

So, this is a fine how do you do. My husband told me this morning that he is a very private person and that he thinks some aspects of our lives should be private and not blogged about for public consumption. Huh. I see this as a direct attack on me as a woman, an individual, and on the Constitution of the United States.

So I am faced with a dilemma. Do I respect this zone of privacy, whatever that means, I mean we're not in the witness protection program or anything, or do I blog to my heart's content, knowing that my husband has not even bothered to look at my blog ONCE even though I'd sent him a link several weeks ago? And is the tidbit about him not reading my blog in the zone of privacy? What are the rules?!

I'm not offended that he hasn't read my blog, really I'm not. Boys are like that. They're not nosy. They're not snoopy. If my husband had a blog, it would be my homepage, so that I could monitor it nonstop. And make comments, where appropriate. Anonymously, if necessary.

I know, my husband and sons have only ever looked at my blog once, the first time I sent them the link. It's never crossed their minds to go back and look at it again.

Maybe you could post about your other husband, as opposed to your real husband who is perfect in every way?

I know a couple where the wife is a poet, and she has published all sorts of things that *I* would not be comfortable with having on a library shelf if I were her husband. I guess he was okay with it, though.

I vote for the fictional husband. That way, you sound interesting, your fictional husband sounds interesting, and your real husband is safe. And maybe jealous of the fictional husband, if the real guy decides to read your blog.

Not only do I love David Sedaris, but I love Amy too. She always talks about her former fictional boyfriend Ricky.

It almost made me want one too, but think of all that extra laundry.

I love the idea of a fictional husband! I just hope that he doesn't challenge my real husband to a duel or something to defend my honor! Of course that could be interesting. But bloody.
